WalkLean Privacy Policy
Effective date: September 29, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Naoya Iha (“we”) handles information in the iPhone app “WalkLean” (the “App”). If there is any difference between this English version and the Japanese version, the Japanese version prevails.
1. Our approach
The App stores your records, such as steps and weight, and your settings only on your device. We do not operate our own servers and never receive the contents of your records. We do not send health-related data such as steps or weight outside your device, and we do not use it for advertising or analytics.
2. Information stored only on your device
The following information is stored only on your iPhone (including a storage area shared between the App and its widget) and is never sent outside your device, including to us.
- Information you enter during setup (gender, height, current weight, and target weight)
- Your step goals (daily step goal and minimum steps)
- Your weight records (dates and weights)
- App settings (display language, appearance, notifications, whether weight sync with Health is on, etc.)
- App usage state (whether setup has been completed, when a rating request was shown, the number of days you reached your goal, etc.)
- Today’s steps and your step goals, for display in the widget
This information is deleted from your device when you use “Reset Settings” in the App’s Settings or delete the App. The App does not sync data between devices through iCloud or any other service.
3. Step data
To show your steps, the App obtains step data as follows.
- It gets today’s steps from your iPhone’s “Motion & Fitness” (pedometer).
- Only if you allow it, it reads step data from Apple’s “Health” app. The App never writes steps to Health.
- If goal-completion notifications are on, the App checks your steps in Health on your device even when the App is not open.
- Step data is used only for display in the App and its widget and is never sent outside your device. It is not used for advertising or analytics.
- You can change or revoke access at any time in the Health app under Profile → Apps → WalkLean.
4. Weight sync with Health
Only if you turn on “Sync Weight with Health” in the App’s Settings and grant permission, the App exchanges weight data with Apple’s “Health” app. This feature is off by default.
- Reading: For days with no weight recorded in the App, the App imports weight stored in Health (including weight recorded by other apps or smart scales).
- Writing: The App also saves the weights you record in the App (including records made before you turned the feature on) to Health.
- The App never deletes weight data from Health. Weight saved in Health remains even if you use “Reset Settings” in the App.
- Weight data is handled only on your device and in Health, and is never sent outside your device. It is not used for advertising or analytics.
- You can turn sync off at any time in the App’s Settings. You can change or revoke access itself at any time in the Health app under Profile → Apps → WalkLean.
5. Advertising
The free version of the App shows ads provided by Google AdMob, a service of Google LLC (ads are not shown after purchasing “PRO”).
- Google AdMob may collect information such as device type, OS version, approximate location, and records of ad views and interactions in order to serve ads.
- On first launch, the App asks for permission to track your activity across other companies’ apps and websites. Only if you allow it is the Identifier for Advertisers (IDFA) used to serve ads. You can use all features of the App even if you do not allow it. You can change this at any time in the iPhone Settings app under Privacy & Security → Tracking.
- We never use health-related data such as steps or weight for advertising, and we never provide it to Google.
- For how Google handles information, please see Google’s Privacy Policy (https://policies.google.com/privacy) and its page on advertising (https://policies.google.com/technologies/ads).
6. Usage analytics
To improve the App, we may collect usage information with Firebase Analytics, a service provided by Google LLC.
- Information collected: records of actions such as your steps being shown for the first time, recording your weight for the first time or reaching three records, opening the weekly report (and whether you use PRO), tapping a PRO feature (where), opening the purchase screen (what led to it), purchasing, cancelling a purchase, a failed purchase, restoring a purchase, confirming that ads are hidden with PRO, and opening, completing, or cancelling sharing; plus general information such as device type, OS version, and App version
- Information not collected: information that identifies you, such as your name or email address; numbers or contents of your records, such as steps, weight, or height; and data from Health
- Collected information is not linked to you as an individual and is used only to understand usage trends and improve the App.
- Collected information is processed on Firebase servers (including outside Japan). For how Google handles information, please see Google’s Privacy Policy (https://policies.google.com/privacy).
7. Purchase information
Purchases of the App’s paid feature “PRO” are made through Apple’s App Store. We do not receive purchase information such as your name or payment method. The App checks on your device whether you have purchased PRO and stores only that result on your device.
8. Notifications
The App’s notifications (goal completion) are created and shown on your device and are not sent from an external server.
9. Sharing images
The App’s “Today’s Result” sharing feature creates an image showing today’s date and your steps. The image is sent only to the destination you choose (such as Messages or social media), and only when you choose to share it. We never receive the image.
10. Disclosure to third parties
Except for the use of the advertising service in section 5 and the analytics service in section 6, we do not provide your information to third parties, unless required by law.
11. Children
The App is not directed at any particular age group.
12. Changes to this policy
We may change this policy as needed. If there are important changes, we will let you know in the App or on this page.
